TREND Magazine · Editorial
Two issues, 246 pages and a creative collective at its largest
As Co-Editor-in-Chief with Leanna Gower, I led TREND through its 2024–2025 year: two print issues, Diorama and Fervor, made by students across seven departments.

01Context
A magazine made by a whole collective
TREND is a student-run magazine in San Diego. Every issue is a group effort: shoots, styling, writing, design and the web all come from members, and the year closes with a fashion show.
By the time we made Diorama, TREND had grown to 75 members, its largest since its founding. That growth was exciting, and it meant we had to rethink how a volunteer team plans, shoots and ships a 100-plus-page print issue.
02My role
Holding the vision and the logistics at once
Editorial
Two themes, two letters
Co-wrote the editors' letters that framed each issue, and shaped how every feature fit the theme.
People
54 students, seven teams
Ran the editorial calendar across department directors, from first pitches to print.
Partnerships
$10k in sponsorship
Brought in partners including Depop and UMG, and kept commercial work in step with the editorial voice.
I also made pages myself. In Diorama I co-directed, shot and designed 00_BENIH, an orchid series, with creative direction shared with Maura Hamami. In Fervor I designed Lost in the Garden. Both are in the spreads below.

Living in the in-between
After Metamorphosis and Out of Bounds the year before, Diorama turned to liminal spaces: who we are in public, who we are when no one is looking, and the layered little worlds in between.

Escapism
“Here, what we make is how we make sense of our lives.”From our letter from the editors, Diorama
04Fervor · S/S 25, Vol. 27
Choosing feeling over apathy
Where Diorama watched transformation happen, Fervor was about the force behind it. The final issue of the year, and the last for our graduating members, it treated creating as an act of devotion.

A magazine is a product with a community inside it. Our job was to give that community a clear theme and a reason to keep showing up.
Thanks to Leanna Gower and every member of TREND 2024–2025.
